Ode to Animated
When we as a fanbase got our first glimpse of “Transformers Animated”, we were skeptical. We thought to ourselves: “Oh, no. Hasbro has done it again.” We thought they didn’t care. And maybe they didn’t. But the guys making this show certainly do. At first the show was descent, but shaky. It couldn’t quite find were it wanted to go. But the characters got us hooked and kept us in it. And our patience paid off. Season two came and things kept getting better. The stories were fresh and exciting. Even the usually annoying human characters we came to love. Season three started with a bang, and only got better from there. The pinnacle of what a Transformers show could be. Every week during season three, after the new episode was finished, I would say to myself, “This show just can’t get any better!” And the next week it proved me wrong.
I remember when I realized I was hooked. You see, I was a late bloomer with this show. I was watching “Rise of the Constructicons” and I actually felt an attachment to these brand new characters in less than thirty minutes. And that was “Animated’s” gift. It realy made you care. We all have a our favorite characters, but even the cast as a whole we felt a connection with. The side characters for me was a real highlight, in particular Wreckgar. The instant he hit the screen he was likable, as the episode went on, he became my favorite character. I’m sure you can think of similar moments.
The writers of Animated cared for us diehards , as they showed week in and week out. Because they are diehards, too. So they know what we want. It is hard to keep count of the easter eggs in just a single episode, much less the whole show. They took all that came before and put a fresh and intelligent twist on our sacred lore. And we loved them for it. They made something special, but we still couldn’t save it.
You know that saying, “You don’t know what you got till it’s gone”? How true those words are today, as we say farewell to perhaps the most beloved Transformers show in history. Sadly cut short for whatever reason. Let’s remember all that we loved about Transformers Animated” and hope that by some chance, someday we may see our dearly departed friend again.
